MEET MICHAEL B. KAPLAN
SENIOR ATTORNEY

Michael B. Kaplan

With a rich background in immigration practice and a passion for impactful legal work, Michael brings both experience and innovation to his role at Brooks Law. He handles a wide range of immigration cases — from removal defense and asylum to family- and employment-based applications — while also helping the firm stay ahead of evolving immigration laws by integrating new policies into the firm’s tech-driven systems.

What Michael values most is the spirit of teamwork that defines Brooks Law. For him, every win is a collective one, and he thrives in an environment where collaboration and shared victories are part of daily life.

Michael’s journey into immigration law began unexpectedly — through a volunteer case while working in a different field of law. That one case changed everything. He realized he was more passionate about his unpaid volunteer work than his paid legal job. Inspired by the direct impact he could have on people’s lives, he left his job, opened his own practice focused on immigration, and eventually merged with a larger firm to expand his reach and resources.

Over the years, he’s had the honor of helping clients gain green cards or citizenship after waiting more than 20 years — each case a testament to perseverance, and a moment of deep joy and fulfillment.

Michael believes in preparation above all. As one of his law professors once said:
“You may not always be the smartest person in the room, but you can always be the most prepared.”

When building relationships with clients, Michael leads with empathy, transparency, and a clear sense of direction. He knows that every immigration case is personal, and he makes it a priority to listen closely, explain clearly, and guide thoughtfully.

In 2018, he traveled to Dilley, Texas during the height of the Family Separation crisis. There, he worked 12+ hour days representing detained mothers and children seeking asylum — an experience that reaffirmed his dedication to immigrant advocacy and the human side of legal work.

Outside the office, Michael loves spending time with his wife, two daughters, and their dog. He’s an avid sports fan who’s always tuned into whatever game is on. Fun fact: in college, he spent a summer driving Kilimanjaro Safari trucks at Disney’s Animal Kingdom — a unique detour before life in the courtroom.
